Lawsuits over 2009 Taconic Parkway fatal accident settled

New Yorkers may remember a terrible accident on the Taconic Parkway in 2009 that left 8 people dead. The wreck was caused by a woman who was drunk and high on drugs and was driving the wrong-way. The van she was driving, which belonged to her brother, smashed head-on into another vehicle, killing three men. The drunk woman also died in the wreck, as well as the three children she was transporting.

Four lawsuits stemming from this terrible accident were recently settled. The claims were filed against the drunk driver’s estate as well as her brother, who owned the van the negligent woman was driving. The details of the settlement have not been disclosed, but hopefully it brings some much needed financial relief and closure to the victims’ surviving families.

Those who unexpectedly lose a loved one in an accident may find themselves heart-broken, depressed, angry, and confused. At such a terrible time, filing a lawsuit may not be something surviving family members want to think about. However, a wrongful death lawsuit may be way to cope with one’s anger by providing an outlet to find justice, closure, and compensation for financial injuries that may have resulted from the fatal accident. These financial damages may include lost wages, medical expenses, and funeral costs.

Surviving families that decide to move forward on a wrongful death claim do not have to go at it alone. A New York attorney can be by their side the entire way, fighting for a favorable and just outcome. No one should be taken sooner than their time, but when tragedy strikes and families are left without the emotional and financial support they need, they should consider taking legal action.
