Fatal semi-truck accident leaves New York woman dead

It has become a sad reality that driving in New York is dangerous. Inattentive, drunk and otherwise negligent drivers can be on the streets at any moment, putting innocent pedestrians and motorists at risk of harm. Though many people are injured every year as a result of auto accidents, it is important to realize that family members are often affected, too, especially when a wreck results in death.

One tragic fatal accident occurred recently when the vehicle a 77-year-old woman was driving was hit by a semi-truck. Police say the woman was attempting to turn left at an intersection into a westbound lane when the truck, which was traveling eastbound, struck her. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Those who lose a loved one to a fatal accident are often left with the many negative consequences that follow. They may be left with costly medical expenses that were incurred in an attempt to save their loved one and funeral costs. Also, a family may be left in financial limbo when their loved one’s income suddenly comes to a halt. All of this is on top of the heart-wrenching emotional pain with which a deceased’s family must cope.

By filing a wrongful death lawsuit against a negligent driver, a surviving family may be able to recoup some of these losses. Medical expenses, funeral costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering may all be recoverable. However, winning such a case takes a lot of work. The facts of the situation must be assessed and the truth uncovered. Then, the law must be applied in an attempt to show that the defendant’s negligence caused the deceased’s death. It may sound overwhelming, but an experienced attorney can be a helping hand that will work to help a surviving family find closure.
