Bus-truck accident in Manhattan leaves 1 dead, at least 4 injured

While many New York residents take the bus during their commutes, getting in an accident while riding public transportation is probably far from passengers’ minds. These accidents can happen, however, and when they do, the results can be deadly.

A recent accident occurred in New York City between a city bus and a stolen box truck. The accident took place at a Manhattan intersection early in the morning. After the police received a phone call in which they were informed that the delivery truck had been stolen, the truck hit a city bus while it was heading south, causing both vehicles to crash into the scaffolding around a commercial building.

At least four people were injured as a result of the collision. Tragically, the bus driver succumbed to his injuries and died; he was the first bus driver to be killed in a crash in more than 14 years. One bus passenger and two pedestrians on the street were injured from the crash and required hospitalization. The driver of the truck was also injured; charges against the 22-year-old driver were pending.

Much the same as other accidents, victims in bus accidents are often able to take legal action when another driver’s negligence caused the crash that resulted in injuries. If the accident was fatal, then sometimes a wrongful death lawsuit is appropriate. If the accident was the result of a bus driver’s negligence, then action might be taken against the driver or the busing company. Every situation is unique and demands a personalized and well-constructed legal strategy.
