Window Washer Suffers Fatal Fall In Brooklyn

window cleaner

Sadly, a 34-year-old window washer from New Jersey suffered a fatal fall on Friday while working on a high-rise building in Brooklyn. According to Channel 4 New York, the worker was working on the 19th floor of the 21-story condo building fell to his death when his harness malfunctioned.

Investigations into the worksite, located at York St. and Jay St. in Dumbo, revealed over 115 complaints against the project since construction began in 2017. According to the Daily News, they reported nine of these incidents occurred in 2021, including multiple injuries to workers and safety concerns over preventable hazards.

Accidents involving protective equipment are preventable when appropriate safety measures are implemented. Tragedies like these are precisely why New York has such strong construction safety laws in place, to protect workers from the devastating accidents which occur when owners and contractors put speed and profit over the safety of workers.

Our condolences go out to the family and loved ones who are grieving this devastating loss.
