Suppose, for example, you are in an accident caused by another driver and one of your children are in your car with you and winds up badly injured.  Suppose that other driver only has $25,000 in liability coverage, too small an amount to compensate your child for the injuries he / she has suffered and will suffer into the future.  If you have Underinsured Motorist Coverage in an amount greater than the other driver’s $25,000 you can collect the other driver’s liability coverage and then look to your own Underinsured Motorist Coverage for the remainder.  So if you carry $100,000 in Underinsured Motorist Coverage you’d look to your policy for the remaining $75,000.  If you carry $300,000 you’d look to your policy for the remaining $275,000.

Many people do not raise their Underinsured Motorist Coverage limits because they simply don’t know they can or should.  Now you know.  If you own a car, call your insurer TODAY and raise the limit to the highest amount they will allow.  Its inexpensive and you’ll be protecting you and your family should an accident happen.  Do it now, before the accident occurs, or it will be too late when the accident happens.  And if you, your family or friends are in an accident, call us, we can help.  1-800-2-4-6-8-WIN.”
