Elderly man struck, killed by suspected drunk driver in New York

When drivers choose to take a drink before getting behind the wheel, they are making a choice that endangers everyone on the road. Drivers need to make quick and smart decisions. They need to be able to act quickly in the case of some unexpected occurrence. Alcohol severely impacts a driver’s ability to do so, making it almost inevitable that a crash will occur. Understandably, families are often outraged when a loved one is injured or killed in a drunk driving accident.

A recent accident involving a suspected drunk driver resulted in the death of a man in New York. According to reports, the elderly victim had just gotten off the bus and was on his way to work when the accident occurred. The victim was crossing the street when the alleged drunk driver tragically crashed into him, resulting in fatal injuries.

The driver of the vehicle is facing charges of drunk driving. He remained on the scene. The road on which the accident occurred is notoriously dangerous. More than a dozen fatal accidents have occurred there in the last two years.

Sadly, losing a loved one in a fatal accident is a tragedy that a lot of New Yorkers have had to suffer. Given the high amount of traffic and busy roads that New York is known for, car accidents are common occurrences and many suffer serious injuries or the loss of loved ones as a result. For some, legal action may be appropriate.

When a loved one is lost in an accident, family members sometimes choose to file wrongful death lawsuits. Wrongful death is a broad term that includes any situation in which a person is killed as a result of the negligence or misconduct of another person. Though seemingly straightforward, there are many legal complexities that often come into play in these types of lawsuits.
