Accident in New York allegedly caused by drunk driver

Motor vehicles can be deadly. Though many New York residents likely enjoy the ease and convenience of owning a car, the fact is that car accidents account for many injuries and deaths every year in the United States. Many of these accidents could be prevented if drivers were to exercise the proper amount of care. Unfortunately, many choose to take certain actions that impair their ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. One such action is drinking before getting behind the wheel — an act of negligence that oftentimes has devastating results.

According to reports, a recent accident in New York involved an allegedly drunk driver. The driver, 24, was allegedly intoxicated while driving when his vehicle struck a truck that was parked on the shoulder of a New York highway. The smaller vehicle rolled over as result. A passenger in the car died on the scene, while the driver and the other passenger were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The truck driver, 53, also suffered injuries and went to a nearby medical facility for care.

Anyone involved in a drunk driving accident is lucky to walk away with their lives, even if they have suffered serious injuries. Many, sadly, are not so lucky and families are left to deal with the tragedy of losing a loved one. Regardless of whether the victims suffered minor injuries or fatal ones, there are options.

Victims in car accidents can oftentimes take legal action against the driver at fault. Legal action can help these victims pursue compensation that can help them pay for the many costs including medical expenses, vehicle damages and lost wages. With an aggressive legal strategy, victims can better their chances at obtaining compensation that can be an important part of their recoveries.
